    1. @Backyard Bullion yes u did.. a ping test for many silver coins including fake ones.. am i missing some points?

  1. Times have changed 4 years on…
Lookup Pocket Pinger. No dropping or nicking coins….
    Word up..
Coins with fake copper cores act like silver with a magnet. Look up the coin and use a scale and calipers, also when you ping a coin have a known good coin of the same type to compare. There are aps that listen to the ping and show fakes also. Happy Stacking.

  2. If buying silver or gold eagles from one of the big online retailers (JM Bullion, APMEX, SD Bullion, MONEX,etc), what are the chances that they will sell you fakes?

  3. Unfortunately, my hearing seems to not be up to the task. I hear absolutely nothing form any of them.

  4. I couldn’t understand what type of magnet you said to use, for the slide test. Could you please repeat?

  5. Frequency varies by composition but also by coin radius. Lesser denominations give a higher frequency and pure silver at common radii gives a characteristic frequency that permits comparison.
High-purity silver–.999, .9999–always resonates, but tonal composition and attenuation vary primarily by purity. A pure tone with shorter duration is purer bullion as pure silver conducts phonons poorly, just as pure water conducts electricity poorly.
It is not so much that other metals have a shorter sounding than that they do not resonate at all.
